‘Beacon’ was one of the works sold during the live auction for 10×10 Drawing the City in aid of Article 25. The diptych illustrates The Shard as a beacon – an inspiring architectural structure which has enhanced its site and surrounding area – and also as a series of oases providing refuge and regeneration in a desolate landscape.
Every year Article 25 places a 10×10 grid over a different part of London. The 100 resulting squares are allocated to 100 prominent architects and artists, who create 100 pieces of art inspired by the squares. The artworks are exhibited and auctioned in November and the proceeds help fund the work of the charity. This popular event gives the people who live and work in the capital the opportunity to re-discover an area of London and re-examine the spaces and cityscapes that we take for granted on a daily basis.
